About the Registry
What is CanBE-NTM?
The Canadian Bronchiectasis and Nontuberculous Mycobacterial Infections Registry (CanBE-NTM) is a Canadian research registry for adults living with non-CF bronchiectasis or NTM (nontuberculous mycobacterial) lung infection. A registry is a secure database that collects health information over time. CanBE-NTM is observational, which means it follows what happens in real life and does not change the care or treatment decided by you and your healthcare team.
Clinicians and researchers with access can sign in at the CanBE-NTM research portal.
What information is collected?
If you choose to join, the registry may collect information already gathered as part of your care:
- Medical history
- CT scans and other imaging
- Breathing tests
- Sputum or lab results
- Medications
- Questionnaires about your symptoms and quality of life
Your information may be updated each year so researchers can better understand how these conditions change over time.
Why does it matter?
By taking part, you help build a clearer picture of bronchiectasis and NTM in Canada, improving future research and supporting better care for people across the country. People who are interested may also choose to be contacted about future research studies or clinical trials.
Voluntary & Consent-Based
Taking part is voluntary. Before any information is collected or stored, you will be asked to provide written consent. Registry information is stored securely through the University of Calgary research platform, and the study is reviewed through research ethics processes at participating sites.
If you are interested in joining, please speak to your specialist (lung or infectious diseases) to ask whether your site is part of the CanBE-NTM registry, or could consider joining.
Why the registry matters
A national research registry for bronchiectasis and NTM
The Canadian Bronchiectasis and NTM Research Registry (NCT06144996) is a prospective observational study led by the University of Calgary, collecting clinical, imaging, and quality-of-life data from adults with non-CF bronchiectasis or NTM infections across Canada.
Participation
Who can take part
For now, participants must be current patients receiving care at one of the designated CanBE-NTM registry sites. Eligible participants are adults diagnosed with non-CF bronchiectasis or NTM infections. Enrolling a diverse cohort across participating sites helps researchers understand how these conditions affect different populations and identify patterns that may lead to improved treatments and care strategies.
